Roll Tide versus the Tigers

#1 LSU vs #2 Alabama One of the best rivalries in all of college football. For years, LSU did not have an offense that could compete with Alabama’s. They have had the defense to put the clamps down on the Tide, but this year, they have both. LSU QB Joe Burrow has played at an elite level, with 2,800 yards and 30 TDs with only 4 int. However, this game comes down to one thing and one thing only, whether or not Tua Tagovailoa plays. If he plays, the Tide will win by 7 (the spread is Alabama -6.5). If he doesn’t, then Burrow and the Tigers will win by 3 points on the road.

Penn State to Cover

#5 Penn State vs #13 Minnesota –  Minnesota has one of the most formidable offenses, led by Senior Running back Rodney Smith (889 rushing yards and 7 TDs) and Sophomore QB Tanner Morgan (1,741 passing yards and 18 TDs). Their offense puts up an impressive 38.4 points per game. Not to be outdone, the Penn State Nittany Lions put up 38.5 points per game, while allowing a measly 9.6 points per game, a full 10 points less than what the Gophers allow. Though this game will be at Minnesota, I expect the Nittany Lions to cover the spread (Penn State -7) and win by 10.

A Defensive Battle on our Hands

#18 Iowa Hawkeyes vs #16 Wisconsin Badgers One of the toughest built teams yearly is the Iowa Hawkeyes. Though they don’t consistently have more talent then the rest of their Big Ten foes, they are year-in and year-out one of the most coached teams, led by Kirk Ferentz. The Hawkeyes have come to be known for their Tight Ends over the past few years (George Kittle, Noah Fant, T.J. Hockensen), but this year is about their defense. The Hawkeyes are giving up 10 points per game and are allowing 260 yards per game. On the other side of the ball, the Badgers, too, put forth a stout defense, allowing 11 points per game and only allowing 223 yards per game. The Badgers go where their Heisman candidate running back, Jonathan Taylor takes them. The bruising Junior has amassed 1,000 yards rushing with 15 TDs, as well as 4 TD’s through the air. Though this could be a defensive battle, I don’t expect the Badgers to cover the spread (Wisconsin -8) but I do expect them to win by 3.
